Classification
of Students
Summer Sessions are open to students either working for credits, or as
auditors. Teachers of Spanish, young adults and older people are most
welcome. All will find these courses most beneficial.
Classes at the graduate level (courses marked with an asterisk [*] in
the Courses of Instruction) are available by special arrangements.
Students working for credits must submit with their application, a
transcript of credits from the institution where they are or were
regular students.
Teachers
Teachers who register for the program to improve or maintain their
skills may claim certain expenses of travel and study in their 2008
income tax returns. They are urged to contact their local IRS office
for additional information.
High
School Students
Because of the similarity of services we offer to college and high
school students for our Summer Sessions in Valencia, a single brochure
is printed for both.
The only difference will be in the courses available to younger
students: high school applicants will make their selection only from
the lower division list (SPAN 101 to SPAN 202), Background of Spanish
Civilization (HIST 295) and History of Spanish Art (ART 262).
Requirements
for summer session students
For beginners: None
For upper division courses: Two years of college Spanish or its
equivalent, 2.5 GPA, one transcript

Extracurricular
Activities
Valencia offers a wide variety of cultural activities such as
lectures, concerts, festivals and museums. Visits and activities will
be organized throughout the summer. These activities will enable
students to enjoy full access to Spanish cultural treasures and to
engage in social relations with a variety of students and scholars of
Spain.
During the Summer sessions, several Saturday excursions to nearby
places have been planned as described in the program. These excursions
will be free of any extra charge. Optional trips besides the scheduled
excursions will be arranged (at cost) to Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona,
Andorra, etc. During the second half of July, Valencia celebrates a
famous Feria (Fair). And for those who like swimming and sunbathing,
several beaches along the Mediterranean seashore offer a special
attraction.
Lodging
And Meals
During the Summer Sessions lodging and three daily meals will be
provided in private homes. Families who usually receive foreign
students as boarders in their homes live in apartments or flats.
Families and accommodation have been carefully reviewed and approved
by our director of housing (rooms are double occupancy). All homes are
located close to public transportation so that both the school and the
center of town can easily be reached.
During the Tour of Spain, only half pension (breakfast and one main
meal) will be provided.
